HC Deb 20 April 1988 vol 131 c459W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what is the role and function of the Government Communications Bureau; when it was created; what has been its annual budget for each of the last five years; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Eggar

The Government Communications Bureau was founded shortly after world war II. It is a non-departmental body advising on international communications systems principally for the Foreign and Commonweath Office and Ministry of Defence. It does not have a separate budget.
