HC Deb 14 April 1988 vol 131 c233W
Mr. Tony Banks

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what contribution his Department is making to the organisation of the 1988 London marathon; and what charges will be made to the organisers.

Mr. Moynihan

The Government continue to give support and encouragement to the London marathon. This includes the use of a substantial part of Greenwich park and of routes in St. James's park. No facility fee is charged for the use of the royal parks, but the London marathon board is required to reimburse the net costs of additional works and facilities provided specifically for the event. Net costs in 1987 were £880.
