§ Mr. ChannonMy right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Home Department and I have today published the report of the road traffic law review which has been carried out under the chairmanship of Dr. Peter North, the Principal of Jesus College, Oxford. Dr. North's terms of reference asked him to examine ways of making the law simpler, more effective and more acceptable. The Government are grateful for the wide range of constructive proposals which the report contains and welcome its concentration on ways to reduce the number of accidents and the casualties, damage and misery which they cause. The many organisations consulted during the review will wish to study its recommendations in their final form. Meanwhile, we shall press on with our own consideration of the report, and will report to the House on our progress before the summer recess.
