§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster (1) if he will impose a ban on the import of all whale products as separate items or as part of fully or semi-manufactured goods; and if he will make a statement;
(2) what efforts are made by his Department to establish the extent of the use of whale products in manufactured or semi-manufactured goods imported into the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. MaudeEC regulation 3626/82 (in force since 1 January 1984) bans the import of all whale products for commercial purposes. The Department of the Environment, through the agency of Customs and Excise, is responsible for ensuring compliance with it.
