HC Deb 29 October 1987 vol 121 c411W
Mr. Hoyle

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how much of the current expenditure by his Department on housing benefit is accounted for by charges for emergency alarm systems, and what was this figure in 1986, 1985 and 1984;

(2) how many people are estimated to use emergency alarm systems; and how many emergency alarm systems are fitted in dwellings that are not classified as sheltered.

Mr. Portillo

I regret that the information requested on charges is not available, nor do we have a reliable basis for an estimate of the number of people who use emergency alarm systems.
