§ Mr. Wheelerasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will make it his policy that the laminate chosen to protect the personal details page of the new European Community common format British passport be the most secure available;
(2) if he will make it his policy to give the highest priority to the level of security in choosing the laminate used to protect the personal details page of the new European Community common format British passport;
(3) if he has had discussions with the Governments of Australia and Canada regarding the most secure laminate used in their passports and as to what level of security was thereby obtained.
§ Mr. RentonThe laminate chosen will need to meet exacting security requirements. The Government are aware that the type of laminate used by the Governments of Australia and Canada offers a satisfactory standard of security.
