HC Deb 28 October 1987 vol 121 c299W
Mr. John Marshall

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the current average cost of a hip replacement operation in the National Health Service.

Mrs. Currie

I refer my hon. Friend to the answer given in theOfficial Report on 3 June 1986 at column 533 which was based on an exercise conducted on the 1984–85 figures. The estimated cost in large acute hospitals was shown as £3,300 in 1986–87 figures. A study is in progress to update the information but it is not expected to show a substantial change.
