§ Mr. Morleyasked the Secretary of State for Defence what information he has about plans by the United States Defence Department to locate mini nuclear power reactors at Royal Air Force and Royal Navy bases in the United Kingdom currently loaned to the United States; what licensing procedures exist to permit the stationing of such nuclear reactors at land military bases in the United Kingdom; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. FreemanWe are not aware that such plans exist or are being developed by any agency of the United States Government. I understand that the United States air force was studying a concept under the title of "Multi-megawatt Terrestrial Power Plant Program" for emergency generating capability in the event of disruption of commercial supplies by natural disaster, but the programme was cancelled by the Secretary of the Air Force.
