§ 28. Mr. ChapmanTo ask the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on the volume of traffic using London's M25 orbital motorway in relation to forecasts; and what plans he has to facilitate traffic flows in the future.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe success of the M25 has meant that it is attracting higher volumes of traffic than forecast. We are determined to ensure that the M25 continues to fulfil its function of keeping through traffic out of London. Work to widen the sections between junctions 11 and 13 will start soon. My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State recently announced our intention of widening the section between junctions 15 and 16 and consultants have been appointed. We expect to commission a full review of the M25 to identify potential problem areas shortly.
