HL Deb 30 November 1987 vol 490 c922WA
The Countess of Mar

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they are prepared to amend the Clothier Regulations to enable patients who are affected by changes in dispensing practice to express their choice as to whether their pharmaceutical services should be dispensed by doctors or chemists.

Whether they are prepared to amend the "1 mile direct" rule in the Clothier Regulations to "2km. by the shortest practical road route" to take into account topography in rural areas.

Lord Skelmersdale

The Clothier Regulations are the result of many years of difficult negotiations between the medical and pharmaceutical professions and we sec no reason at present to disturb the balance of these arrangements.
