§ Mr. Donald ThompsonFood is already sampled regularly by local authorities which are responsible for the enforcement of food legislation, and the samples are analysed by the public analysts appointed by them. Moreover, the Government have a continuing programme of food surveillance which is designed to ensure that the food intake of the population is both safe and nutritious. This programme is operated by Government scientists under the steering group on food surveillance.
