§ Mr. SpellerTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what representation she has received about the dumping of sewage in the Bristol channel adjacent to the beaches of north Devon.
§ Mr. GummerRepresentations have been received from Lynton and Lynemouth town council, Ilfracombe town council and Combe Martin parish council about the sea disposal of sewage sludge, the residue from sewage treatment, which takes place some 11 miles north of Ilfracombe. Scientific surveillance by my Department suggests that these operations are unlikely to have any significant effect on the quality of the north Devon beaches.
§ Mr. PikeTo ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how many sewage sludge dump sites there are along the United Kingdom coast.
§ Mr. GummerFifteen such sites are in regular use and three reserve sites are used occasionally in rough weather.
