§ Mr. Pike
To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if his Department has made any progress in the last six months in tightening its scrutiny and control of river pollution derived from agricultural activities; if he is considering more far-reaching co-operation with other Departments with regard to this matter; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gummer
My Department continues to strengthen its advice to farmers on how to reduce river pollution. I have also been considering with others, including my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment, 429W the need for further measures. Our conclusions will be contained in the Government's response to the House of Commons Environment Committee's third report.
