HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 c235W
Mr. Michael Brown

To ask the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on measures to encourage the availability to tourists of all-weather sports facilities.

Mr. Moynihan

I have been asked to reply. The Government fully recognise the contribution sport and recreation can make to tourism. Public sector sports facilities, including those grant-aided by the Sports Council, are available to all members of the public, including tourists. Numbers of all-weather sports facilities have increased in the last 10 years and information on such facilities is made freely available to tourists. The tourist boards are also able to encourage provision of recreational facilities used by tourists through the schemes run under section 4 of the Development of Tourism Act 1969.
