HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 c186W
Dr. Glyn

To ask the Secretary of State for Education and Science what representations he has received in favour of adding religious education to the subjects included in the proposed core curriculum; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Rumbold

We have received many responses from organisations and individuals regarding the place of religious education in a national curriculum. Copies of all responses from organisations to our consultation document have been placed in the Library. The teaching of religious education is already required to be taught by law and the Government are committed to its continuation as an essential part of the curriculum of every maintained school.
