HC Deb 12 November 1987 vol 122 c307W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the outcome of the audit carried out by John Brown of the Aldermaston redevelopment; what cost overruns were revealed; what action is being taken to remedy them; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Sainsbury

A contract was let following competition to John Brown Engineers and Constructors Ltd. in March 1987 to advise and assist the Atomic Weapons Establishment (AWE), Aldermaston, with the co-ordination and integration of key projects in the programme of new capital facilities at the Establishment.

Following advice from John Brown as part of its initial task, competitive tenders have now been issued for the provision of an integrated project management service to the establishment, through to the completion of the capital programme.

Information on the cost of the capital works programme at AWE Aldermaston is included in the report by the Comptroller and Auditor General on the "Control and Management of the Trident Programme" (HC27). A statement on the report would be inappropriate at this time for the reason I gave in my answer to the hon. Member on 30 October at column 485.
