§ Mr. Tony BanksTo ask the Secretary of State for the Home Department to what factors he attributes the increase between 1985–86 and 1986–87 in his Department's expenditure on press advertising.
§ Mr. HurdOverall advertising expenditure by the Home Office fell from £4 million in 1985–86 to £3.6 million in 1986–87. The increase in press advertising expenditure (to £1,150,000 in 1986–87, not £1,366,000 as incorrectly given in reply to the hon. Member on 3 November, at columns622–23) was balanced by a reduction in television and other media expenditure. This change reflected the judgment of our advertising advisers on the usefulness of particular media for particular campaigns.
