HC Deb 09 November 1987 vol 122 cc35-6W
Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence by what means the United Kingdom Government have calculated the size of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republic's stockpile of chemical weapons.

Mr. Ian Stewart

For reasons of security, it would not be prudent to disclose the means by which we calculate the size of the Soviet Union's stockpile of chemical agents and weapons.

Mr. Cohen

To ask the Secretary of State for Defence what are the implications of the United States of America's contingency plan for the deployment of United States binary chemical munitions in Europe for the siting of such weapons in the United Kingdom in times of crisis.

Mr. Ian Stewart

I have nothing to add to the reply given by my right hon. Friend the Prime Minister to the hon. Member on 3 November 1987 at column625.
