HC Deb 05 November 1987 vol 121 c849W
Mr. Alan Williams

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received from the Welsh Football Association about the refusal of the Football League to cancel certain matches in which Welsh footballers are involved; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

I have received a letter from the Football Association of Wales and from the hon. Member for Newport, East (Mr. Hughes) on its behalf.

This is a matter for the two football authorities. I do, however, sympathise with the position of the Football Association of Wales and hope, even at this late stage, that the Football League can reconsider the matter.
