asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on when the A74 will be upgraded to M74 status.

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave on 26 October to the hon. Member for Glasgow, Shettleston (Mr. Marshall). The upgrading will inevitably be a long-term exercise.
