§ Mr. Jim Callaghanasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will take steps to bring special constables into the disciplinary and grievance procedure which applies to other police constables; and if he will make a statement;
(2) what representations he has received seeking the right for special constables to have an appeal mechanism against chief constables' decisions; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThere are no plans to introduce a discipline code for special constables since it would be difficult to apply such a code to voluntary unpaid officers. We have had no recent representations in favour of an appeal system other than from the hon. Member.
