HC Deb 04 November 1987 vol 121 c730W
61. Mr. Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what assessment he has made of the likely impact on the level of rates of the recent wage settlement for local authority manual workers.

Mr. Chope

If there is no increase in productivity, the 10.6 per cent. pay increase conceded by the local authority employers to their manual workers could cost over £330 million, which is equivalent to 2 per cent. on rates.
