HC Deb 04 November 1987 vol 121 c699W
Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many cases of children being detained under the port stop procedures under the Child Abduction Act 1984 have been reported to him; and how many of these cases were instances where children had been abducted by those who were not related to them.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

None. The Home Office relinquished direct responsibility for port stop procedures on 2 May 1986; the responsibility now lies with chief officers of police and no statistics are kept centrally.

Mrs. Dunwoody

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what liaison exists between British Police forces and those of other European countries relating to the abduction of children; and what machinery exists for reporting of the abduction of minors.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

Liaison between British police forces and those of other European countries is conducted through normal interpol channels. Within this country all police forces are alerted to the abduction of minors through the police national computer.
