§ Mr. Macdonaldasked the Secretary of State for Defence what implications the development of the simulated combat trainer for ground-launched low-level air defence by British Aerospace and others at Letchworth 604W will have for his Department's installations in the Uists, particularly as regards the numbers of both civilian and military personnel either stationed or employed there.
§ Mr. SainsburyRapier simulators are used to improve the realism and effectiveness of training, and thus help to maximise the benefit obtained from the firing of live missiles which will continue to take place at the Royal Artillery range, Hebrides. Thus there are currently no plans to alter the number of personnel employed at the range as a result of the development of new simulators.
