HC Deb 02 November 1987 vol 121 c499W
Mr. Michael McNair-Wilson

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether any members of his staff have visited the Peto institute in Budapest to study the system called conductive education which is used there; whether any educational authorities have sent teachers there to train as conductors; and what plans he has to fund pilot schemes based on the Hungarian experience in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Dunn

No members of my right hon. Friend's staff have visited the Peto institute. Information about visits by teachers is not collected centrally. The Department is providing £326,000 in order to fund Birmingham university's research evaluation of the Foundation for Conductive Education's pilot project in Birmingham; there are no plans to fund any pilot schemes although LEAs are free to organise such schemes if they wish to do so.
