asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will make a statement on the operation of the system of notification of his Department to the Public Accounts Committee of projects costing over a certain sum; whether that threshold refers to eventual total anticipated cost; and when the system is next due for renewal

The system of notification to which the hon. Member refers was described by my predecessor on 2 February 1987, columns516–17. The threshold of £250 million related to the total expected cost of development and production combined. The Government have no plans to review the system, but this does not exclude the possibility that changes of detail may be agreed between the Committee and my Department from time to time.
