§ Mr. Newton[pursuant to his reply, 11 May 1987, c. 131]: The available information is shown in the table. Prior to 1981 the statistics on abortions carried out in non NHS premises do not identify separately those performed on NHS patients under agency arrangements. Hence it is not possible to provide data for charitable and commercial organisations for 1979 and 1980. For this purpose, charitable organisations are those registered as a charity with the Charity Commissioners, and the remainder are defined as commercial organisations.
