§ Dr. David Clarkasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what steps have been taken to remove the land holdings of British Gas from the public bodies land Register under section 10 of the Local Government Act 1980, following privatisation of the Corporation.
§ Mr. John PattenThe Gas Act 1986, which privatised the British Gas Corporation, also amended the Local Government, Planning and Land Act 1980 so that the provisions concerning the registers of publicly owned land, contained in part X and schedule 16 of the Act, no longer applied to British Gas. The relevant provisions of the Gas Act were brought into operation on 23 August 1986.
