§ Mr. Meadowcroftasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will make a statement on his policy towards the provision of zebra crossings and on circulars issued to local authorities on the safety of such crossings.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyZebra crossings can improve road safety in certain circumstances where there is high conflict between pedestrian and vehicular traffic. We commend their use. The Department issued advice on these crossings covering inter alia, road safety aspects in advice note TA/10/80 "Design Considerations for Pelican and Zebra Crossings", a copy of which is in the Library. This advice has recently been revised. I will write to the hon. Member enclosing the latest information.
