§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will set out the main steps being taken to implement the recommendations of the occupational health review, referred to in the Government reply to recommendation 21 of the Third Report from the Social Services Committee in Session 1985–86.
§ Mr. MellorThe main steps being taken to implement the recommendations of the occupational health review carried out by the Department are as follows:
- 1. The reintroduction of medical exainations for new recruits.
- 2. The further development of a pilot scheme designed to enhance staff fitness.
- 3. The development of a training package specifically designed for prison staff on AIDS.
- 4. Consideration of the possibility of producing a training package to help staff cope with the stress of working in the prison environment.
- 5. A preventive health campaign on smoking.
