Between June 1983 and June 1986 there was a net increase of 4,000 in the civilian employed labour force (which is the sum of employees in employment plus the self-employed) in the north-west region. This is the result of a decrease of employees in employment of 39,000 and an increase in the number of self-employed of 43,000.
