Mr. Kennedy

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will provide a detailed breakdown of the number of full-time and part-time places, respectively, on the community programme in each of the local government regions in Scotland; if he will state the total expenditure on the community programme in each local government region in Scotland; and if he win make a statement.

At the end of February 1987 the numbers of full-time and part-time places on the community programme, in each of the Manpower Services Commission's community programme office areas in Scotland, were as shown m the table.

In the current financial year, expenditure up to 6 March 1987 was £129.4 million. Expenditure by region is not available.

The community programme continues to be successful in meeting its principal objective of providing up to a year's work experience for as many long-term unemployed people as possible within the available resources.
