Mr. Ron Brownasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what representations he has received 448W from trade unions about the threatened deportation of Begam and Mariam Chummun; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WaddingtonDeportation orders were made against Begam and Mariam Chummun on 16 March 1982. Representations received about the cases included one from a branch of a trade union. The deportation orders were quashed in a judgment of the Divisional Court on 25 March 1986. The Treasury Solicitor subsequently lodged notice of appeal against this judgment with the Registrar of Civil Appeals. The appeal has not yet been heard: meanwhile, no action is being taken against Begam and Mariam Chummun.
