§ Mr. Wilsonasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what information he has on the price and availability of cereals for the United Kingdom livestock sector.
§ Mr. GummerExtensive information on the price of home-grown feed grains is published weekly by the Home Grown Cereals Authority. Supplies are sufficient to meet normal demand over the rest of the season, including usual commercial carry-over stocks.
§ Mr. Maclennanasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what estimate he has made of the likely effect upon (a) the price of cereals and (b) the costs of other sectors of the industry of the recent export under licence of over one million tonnes of cereals; what representations he has received about this export and the effects of this trade in general on other sectors; and what response he has made.
§ Mr. GummerEx-farm prices of bread and milling wheats are lower than a year ago; those for feed wheat and barley are at about last year's level and remain below the intervention price. I have received some representations about the level of cereals exports but it is no part of our policy to sit on grain surplus to the season's requirements in an attempt to prevent the normal seasonal rise in prices on our market. I congratulate the industry on its record achievement which will enable us to end the season with lower intervention stocks.
