HC Deb 13 March 1987 vol 112 c321W
Mr. Foulkes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action will be taken by Her Majesty's Customs and Excise to investigate reports that the Guernsey-registered vessel Silver Sea was loaded with extra cargo after customs clearance before its departure on 15 February 1986 from Southampton.

Mr. A. J. Beith

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what was declared to Her Majesty's Customs and Excise officials in the ship's manifest by the owners of the vessel Silver Sea in respect of recent voyages to Central America; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Foulkes

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what action his Department will take to investigate reports that the Guernsey-registered vessel Silver Sea was loaded with certain items not listed on the ship's manifest when it left Southampton on 15 February 1986.

Mr. Brooke

[pursuant to his replies, 12 March 1987, c. 271]: Customs records show that the MV Silver Sea was granted outward clearance on 12 February 1986 to depart in ballast for Gibraltar. Customs and Excise have made inquiries into possible irregularities concerning the export of goods, but these inquiries have not reached a stage where any conclusions can be drawn.
