§ Mr. LangAt present 97 police surgeons (of whom I understand 91 are male) are employed or retained by Strathclyde regional council. In addition, in the light of the244W circular on the investigation of complaints of sexual assault which the Scottish Home and Health Department issued to chief constables in November 1985, Strathclyde police have engaged the services of seven female doctors, who, although not police surgeons, are willing, where necessary to examine women complaining of sexual assault.
