§ Mr. Nichollsasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the response to the advertisement about the Foreign Compensation (USSR) (Registration and Determination of Claims) Order 1986.
§ Mr. EggarAs envisaged in my answer of 13 January 1987 to my hon. Friend the Member for Richmond and Barnes (Mr. Hanley), these advertisements were carried in the national press at the end of January and early in February. Up to the end of February some 10,000 requests for application forms were received and dealt with in response to the advertisements. Approximately 70 per cent. of these requests were related to claims by holders of Russian bonds. However, the number of completed application forms which had been returned to the Foreign Compensation Commission by the end of February was low—slightly over 600. It is therefore important that potential clamants should bear in mind the strict closing dates for the receipt of completed forms. The closing date 213W for claims in respect of bonds is 31 March 1987; while the closing date for applications in respect of other claims is 30 June 1987.
