asked the Secretary of State for Energy what information he has about the number of firms in the north-west of England involved in contracts to supply equipment to the nuclear power industry and related industries.

Mr. Goodlad

In 1985–86 the nuclear industry placed contracts worth a total value of over £300 million with north-west companies. BNFL used some 2,800 firms, the CEGB 550, the NNC 100 and the UKAEA 84.
