HC Deb 04 March 1987 vol 111 c599W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many summonses have been issued in England and Wales for not displaying a road fund licence on a motor vehicle in the last three years; how many people were fined as a result; how many received custodial sentences for non-payment of such fines; and what is the amount outstanding in respect of fines for non-display of a road fund licence disc.

Mr. Mellor

The available information is for proceedings, findings of guilt and fines at magistrates courts for the offences of a motor vehicle licence being obscured or not affixed, and resulting fines. This is published annually in "Offences relating to motor vehicles England and Wales", supplementary table 5 (page 12) of the issue for 1985, the latest year for which information is available. A copy is in the Library. The number of persons receiving custodial sentences for non-payment of fines and the amount of fines outstanding are not recorded centrally in respect of these offences.
