Mr. Macdonald

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will list all currently planned military construction projects in the Western Isles.

Mr. Freeman

The major projects currently planned in the Western Isles are as follows;

RAF Stornoway

  • Hardened aircraft shelters with associated support buildings.
  • Additional fuel storage with interconnecting on base pipeline.
  • Jetty at Gob Shilldinish with pipeline to airfield
  • Improved air traffic control facilities.

RAF Benbecula

Completion of works for the IUKADGE1 facilities including:

  • Support building.
  • Radar installation.
  • Ducting
  • Electrical works.

South Uist Island

  • Marconi ST 802 Radar
  • Explosive storehouse
  • 1 Improved United Kingdom Air Defence Ground Environment.
