Mr. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how the United Kingdom voted on the following disarmament resolutions: (a) 41/46 cessation all nuclear tests A and B, (b) 41/47 urgent need for a comprehensive nuclear test ban treaty and (c) 41/54 implementation of General Assembly resolution 40/88 on the immediate cessation and prohibition of nuclear weapon tests and (d) 4/59 (N) notification of nuclear tests, in the 41st United Nations General Assembly; and how many other nations voted with the United Kingdom in each case.

The United Kingdom voted against resolutions 41/46A, 41/46B and 41/54, and abstained on resolutions 41/47 and 41/59N. Fourteen other countries abstained on resolution 41/47 and 21 on 41/59N. In the case of resolutions 41/46A, 41/46B and 41/54, the United Kingdom voted in the company of two other Western nuclear weapons states.
