HC Deb 23 July 1987 vol 120 c375W
Mr. Nicholas Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if Her Majesty's Government are satisfied that the present arrangements for compensation as a result of compulsory purchase are equitable; and what proposals exist to allow for the payment of a sum towards replacement costs of relocation.

Mr. Waldegrave

I believe that the rules in section 5 of the Land Compensation Act 1961 for assessing the market value of properties which have been compulsorily acquired are in general a fair way of establishing the value of what is being taken from the landowner. We have no proposals for changing entitlement to reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses arising from the move, and to compensation for the value of fixtures which cannot be removed.
