§ Mr. Nicholas Bennettasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if Her Majesty's Government are satisfied that the present arrangements for compensation as a result of compulsory purchase are equitable; and what proposals exist to allow for the payment of a sum towards replacement costs of relocation.
§ Mr. WaldegraveI believe that the rules in section 5 of the Land Compensation Act 1961 for assessing the market value of properties which have been compulsorily acquired are in general a fair way of establishing the value of what is being taken from the landowner. We have no proposals for changing entitlement to reimbursement of out-of-pocket expenses arising from the move, and to compensation for the value of fixtures which cannot be removed.
