HC Deb 22 July 1987 vol 120 c211W
Ms. Armstrong

asked the Secretary of State for Employment to what causes he attributes the fact, as revealed in "Regional Trades 1987", that a lower proportion of those who leave YTS schemes in the north find full-time employment, following completion of the scheme, than in any other region in Great Britain.

Mr. Cope

It is difficult to attribute regional variation in the placement rate of YTS trainees to particular factors, though the characteristics of the regional labour market are bound to have an influence.

It is encouraging that, in the six months from April to September 1986, 49 per cent. of those leaving one year YTS in the north entered full-time employment compared with 40 per cent. in 1985–86.
