HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c53W
Mr. Ashley

asked the Attorney-General when he expects the necessary resources to become available to bring into force the Family Law Reform Act 1987.

The Attorney-General

Bringing part 11 of the Family Law Reform Act 1987 into force will require considerable expenditure in terms of staff costs and legal aid, for which resources will not be available until after 1988. Other plans and priorities will determine when resources can be made available thereafter, but the Lord Chancellor will keep the matter under close review.

The Lord Chancellor hopes to bring the rest of the Act —which does not involve the expenditure of significant resources— into force by early 1988.
