HC Deb 20 July 1987 vol 120 c33W
31. Mr. Fallon

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what plans he has to improve the existing roadway of the A1 between Doncaster and Scotch Corner.

Mr. Peter Bottomley

A new interchange at Baldersby, near Ripon, has just been completed. A new bypass at Wetherby is being built.

The national programme includes schemes to upgrade the remainder of the A1 between Bramham, near Leeds, to Scotch corner. Dual three-lane carriageways are proposed.

The section of the A1 south of Bramham to Doncaster is included in a study of traffic problems to the east of Leeds. I hope to make an announcement about this during the autumn.
