Mr. Wilkinson

asked the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster what is the comparison of gross domestic product at 1987 prices between (a) the United Kingdom, (b) the United States of America, (c) Japan, (d) West Germany and (e) France, of the amount allocated by each country to military research.

The available information relates to Government funding of research and development for defence purposes in 1985 and is given in the table. For countries other than the United Kingdom the information is obtained from the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development.
