§ 13. Mr. Nicholas Bakerasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement about the operation of the provision in section 53 of the Education Act 1986 that local education authorities should have regard to the age of pupil and the nature of the routes which a pupil could be reasonably expected to take in deciding if school transport should be provided at the cost of the authority.
§ Mr. DunnSection 53 of the Education Act 1986 clarifies section 55 of the Education Act 1944. It sets out more explicitly some of the relevant factors to be taken into account by LEAs when considering what arrangements are "necessary" for the provision of transport under Section 55(1) of the Education Act 1944.
