§ Mr. Steinbergasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make it his policy to respond to inquiries from right hon. and hon. Members as to whether named constituents are subject to telephone tapping; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. HurdAnyone who believes that the interception of his or her telephone communications has been authorised may apply to the Tribunal established under the Interception of Communications Act 1985 for an investigation.
I shall continue the longstanding policy of successive Governments never to cofirm or deny whether interception has been authorised in any particular case, irrespective of whether interception has been authorised or not.
