§ Mr. Galbraithasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what plans he has for the future development of the two veterinary colleges in Scotland; and if he will make a statement.
Mr. JacksonThere is a recognised need to rationalise provision for veterinary education. The Government welcome the initiative of the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow in discussing arrangements for closer co-operation, and the establishment, announced today, of a UGC working party to begin work in November 1987 under the chairmanship of Sir Ralph Riley FRS. If by then the Universities of Edinburgh and Glasgow have made significant progress with their plans, the UGC's review will be confined to the four English universities with veterinary schools.
