asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will list those parts of Wales which are being investigated by the Nuclear Industry Radioactive Waste Executive as possible dumping sites for nuclear waste.

As my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for the Environment made clear in his statement on 1 May, at column 504, NIREX is still some way from identifying suitable locations for a deep multipurpose facility for the disposal of low and intermediate level waste.

At this stage, it is not possible to rule out any part of the United Kingdom.
